David Cox practices bankruptcy law throughout the Western District of Virginia from his offices in Lynchburg, Danville, Harrisonburg, Staunton, and Winchester. Prior to entering private practice, David served as a judicial law clerk for the late Hon. William E. Anderson.
He is the coeditor of Bankruptcy Practice in Virginia, authored the fourth edition of the American Bankruptcy Institute’s book, Consumer Bankruptcy: Fundamentals of Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, and has lectured at numerous CLE programs related to bankruptcy across the country. David is a permanent member of the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference and a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy. Most recently in 2017, David was appointed to serve on the General Administration and Estate Committee of the ABI Commission on Consumer Bankruptcy.
Janice Roy Hansen was born in Bristol Connecticut. She received her B.S. degree in Psychology, Cum Laude, from Florida State University in 1991 and her J.D. degree, Cum Laude, from F.S.U. College of Law in 1996.
While in law school, Ms. Hansen was a chair person for the Public Interest Law Society and a Guardian Ad Litem. Ms. Hansen is a member of the Virginia State Bar, Florida State Bar, American Bar Association, American Bankruptcy Institute, and the Lynchburg Junior League.
Heidi B. Shafer is a native of Lexington, Virginia. Heidi graduated from Virginia Tech in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and a minor in Sociology. Heidi received her Juris Doctorate in May of 2002 from Regent University in Virginia Beach and has been an active member of the Virginia State Bar since October of 2002.
She practiced in the areas of Bankruptcy, Domestic and Juvenile Law, Criminal Law and Civil law, in the Hampton Roads area from October of 2002 until March of 2008. Heidi joined the Cox Law Group in March of 2008. Heidi served as membership chairman for the Tidewater Bankruptcy Bar Association in 2006. She is also a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. Heidi has been married to her husband, Rob, since June of 2001, and they have one son, Aidan, born in 2006.
David Wright was born and raised in Lynchburg. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.A. in Political Science in 1992, and received his J.D. from the University Of Akron School of Law in 1996.
He practiced criminal defense law for 5 years with the Lynchburg Public Defender’s Office before joining the Cox Law Group in 2003. He has extensive trial experience in the General District Court, the Circuit Court, the Virginia Court of Appeals, and the U. S. Bankruptcy Court. He is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, and the Bankruptcy section of the Lynchburg Bar . He is an active member of the Lynchburg community.
